About worabe university
Werabe University /WRU/ is one of the fourth-generation universities established in 2018.
It is situated in a 15-year-old fast growing Werabe town located 172 Km southwest of Addis Ababa and 155 km away from Hawassa, the Capital of SNNPRS. The university was established based on the commitment of the government towards the expansion of quality higher education as well as ensuring a reasonable distribution of higher education in the country. The foundation stone was laid down on 29th November 2007 E.C by the then Prime Minister of Ethiopia His Excellency Hailemariam Desalegn. The construction of the university was started immediately on a total land area of 137 hectares which was given by the city administration of Werabe town.
Currently, the university is operating in 24 fully completed and furnished buildings and has admitted over 4000 students in regular and continuing education programs in 47 departments under 6 Colleges one institution and two schools. The colleges are:
- College of Natural and Computational Sciences
- College of Agricultural and Natural Resource
- College of Business and Economics,
- College of Social Sciences
- College of Humanities,
- College of Health and Medical Sciences.
- School of Law and Governance And
- School of Education and Behavioral Science
- Institution of Technology
The intake capacity is expected to grow to 7000 students by the next academic year and, in two years time, the total number of students will be more than 10,000 as the projection indicates.
The university currently consists of more than 481 academic staffs and about 547 support staffs under various directorates. All the community members of WRU with their profundity and commitment are playing immense role to achieve the national growth and transformation plan (GTP) via the university’s vision, mission and goals. The University has been working hard in teaching, research and community services with a vision to be one among the best university of Ethiopia, in 2020.
